All couples struggle sometimes. Couples counseling can help. It’s not always easy to work through the inevitable challenges that come up when two different people try to navigate life together. Sometimes conflict has become so common that couples feel hopeless. Other times couples have drifted apart and they aren’t sure they even know each other anymore. Affairs, step-families, and parenting struggles can all contribute to couples feeling stuck and unsure what to do next. I use the foundations taught in Gottman Method Couples Therapy to help you rebuild a healthy and strong relationship.
Special extended sessions
Couples Counseling Kickstart
The first few hours of couples counseling is usually devoted to learning the history of the relationship and the current challenges. It also includes understanding how each partner’s individual histories impact the relationship functioning, and teaching couples foundational Gottman concepts while continuing to assess the relationship. This is all combined so I have a clear understanding of how to help each unique couple. The Couples Kickstart, a 3-hour session, allows us to accomplish this in one day so that we can get to the heart of the issues more efficiently.
Couples Counseling Kickstart Plus
For couples who really want to dive into their counseling journey, Couples Kickstart Plus is a full day (6 hours) that covers everything in the Couples Kickstart, plus additional concepts tailored to what the couple needs first. Some couples benefit from learning and practicing exercises for repairing conflicts. Others need to learn a new way to work through a problem by focusing on understanding each perspective before working on compromise. Still others need to work through the recent discovery of an affair. This option is also helpful for couples whose schedules don’t allow for regular weekly sessions.
Couples Counseling Tune-up
The Couples Tune-up is intended for couples who aren’t having significant problems, but aren’t satisfied with the status quo of their relationship. During this 3- or 6-hour session, you will learn foundational Gottman concepts and practice exercises that can help you get your relationship from “OK” to “GREAT!”
