Research shows that the best relationships have 5 positive interactions for every negative interaction. The best way to improve that ratio is to increase the positive parts of the relationship, such as a regular date night.
Are you in a bit of a “dinner and a movie” date night rut? Or even worse, has date night fallen off the calendar completely? Summertime is a great time to find something new and different to try. Even if it’s a bust, chances are it will at least be good for a “remember that time when…” story in the future. We have so many options here in San Diego, so try something different! Here are a few ideas to get those creative juices flowing.
- Outdoor summer concerts
I love checking out the free concerts all around the county this time of year. Just Googling “Free summer concerts in San Diego” will give you several sources. A few of my favorite venues are Lake Poway, La Jolla and Coronado. Another fun option is Bayside Summer Nights at the Embarcadero. Lawn seating is reasonably priced and some concerts include fireworks. For extra style and fun points, borrow a kayak or rowboat and paddle up to a concert at Humphrey’s.
- Indoor sky diving
I’ve never understood why someone would jump out of a perfectly good airplane, but if you’d like a different way to experience the thrill, how about trying one of the indoor sky diving places in town? If your date night needs a shot of adrenaline, this might be the ticket.
- Scavenger hunting
There are a couple options available for scavenger hunts in in San Diego. They give you the chance to get some exercise and solve puzzles together while enjoying our beautiful city. Kind of like the Amazing Race only you don’t have to travel or worry about being eliminated.
- Learn something new
Check out the adult education options at your local high school or community college. Maybe you could both learn a new language, take a cooking class, or learn to Tango. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you could play catalog roulette and just open the catalog and point.
- Go off the beaten path
Google “Secret San Diego” and you will find several lists of “secret” things to do around town. Pick one of the lists that sounds fun to the two of you, and then commit to trying them all. Now you’ve got date night planned for weeks to come!
These are just a few of the many, many fun date night ideas in our city. Now go out and have fun!
